FAQ
What are Thermrup® heated insoles?
Thermrup® heated insoles are electrically heated insoles that generate heat using a flexible heating element. Power is supplied via an external battery. Thermrup® is a German brand that has been developing electrical heating technology with flexible heating elements since 2011.
How do Thermrup® heated insoles work?
The external battery provides electrical energy to the flexible heating element in the insole. The heating element converts the electrical energy into heat and releases it to the foot area. Depending on the model and battery, different heat settings may be available.
Why does Thermrup® use an external battery?
The external battery is not located directly under the foot. An important reason for this design is safety: unlike a battery integrated into the insole, the Thermrup® battery is located outside the shoe. This physical separation reduces the risk of foot burns in the event of the battery overheating. Furthermore, the external battery is not subject to direct pressure under the foot while walking and is less stressed by foot impact and shock. This helps reduce the risk of mechanical damage to the battery.
As a result, the insole does not need to accommodate a battery and can remain comparatively thin and flexible. In addition, the battery can be charged independently of the insole and replaced if necessary.
How thick are Thermrup® heated insoles?
The thickness of the Thermrup® insole is approx. 5 mm. The insole is made of a soft EVA material and contains the flexible heating element.
How long does the battery last?
For a commonly used configuration with 7.4 V and 2600 mAh, the theoretical runtime, depending on the heat setting, is approximately 5 hours on the highest setting and up to 10 hours on the lowest setting. The actual runtime may vary depending on temperature, heat setting, shoe, battery, and operating conditions.
Why does Thermrup® use 7.4 V batteries?
In an electrical heating system, voltage, heating element resistance, power consumption, and heat output must be coordinated. For certain heated insoles, Thermrup® uses a 7.4 V system that is matched to the respective heating elements and the desired heat output.
Does the battery life decrease in cold weather?
Yes, very low temperatures can affect the actual performance of lithium batteries. Added to this is a characteristic of the flexible Thermrup® heating element: the lower the temperature of the heating element, the higher its heat output. In cold weather, this can also increase energy consumption. Therefore, battery life can be shorter in very cold outside temperatures than under normal conditions.
How is the battery attached?
The external battery can be attached to the ankle, below the knee, or above the knee using a gaiter. Alternatively, it can also be carried in a trouser pocket. The connection cable is 70 cm long. An extension cable can be purchased separately for additional reach.
How long does charging take?
For corresponding Thermrup® batteries, the charging time is approximately 3–4 hours. The actual charging time depends on the battery, charger, and the battery's charge level.
Can the insole be trimmed to size?
Yes. The Thermrup® insole can be adapted to the shape and size of the shoe as required. It can be cut along the marked cutting lines and, if necessary, smaller than the marked cutting lines. The flexible silicone heating element continues to function even if it is nicked or cut during the trimming process. Important: The connection cable or the electrical supply lead must not be cut or damaged.
Are Thermrup® heated insoles safe?
Thermrup® heated insoles offer an important safety advantage due to their external battery: the battery is located outside the shoe and not directly under the foot. If the battery were to overheat, this physical separation reduces the risk of the resulting heat directly injuring the foot. For safe operation, the intended batteries and chargers must be used and the instructions in the manual must be followed. Batteries, cables, and heating elements must not be modified or repaired independently; the only exception is the trimming of the insole and the flexible silicone heating element as described under "Can the insole be trimmed to size?". The connection cable or the electrical supply lead must not be cut or damaged during this process.
Can I use the insoles while sleeping?
Use while sleeping is not recommended. During sleep, heat development cannot be reliably perceived and the heat setting cannot be adjusted in time.
Can heated insoles get too hot?
The actual temperature depends on factors such as the heat setting, ambient temperature, shoe insulation, and operating conditions. In the event of an unpleasant feeling of heat, the heat setting should be reduced or the heating switched off.
Can Thermrup® heated insoles be washed?
Yes. The flexible silicone heating element is waterproof, so Thermrup® heated insoles can be washed with water. Hand washing is recommended. When machine washing, the insoles must be placed in a laundry bag or mesh net due to the cables. Disconnect and remove the batteries before washing. Only reconnect the insoles to the power supply once they have dried completely.
What activities are Thermrup® heated insoles suitable for?
Thermrup® heated insoles can be used for skiing, snowboarding, hiking, cycling, horse riding, motorcycling, hunting, fishing, outdoor work, gardening, Christmas markets, and activities in cold areas, among others.
Are the insoles suitable for skiing?
Yes. Skiing is one of the typical areas of use for heated insoles. With ski boots, it is important to ensure there is sufficient space.
Are Thermrup® insoles suitable for motorcyclists?
Yes. When riding a motorcycle, feet can cool down significantly, especially at low temperatures and during long rides. The heated insole can provide additional warmth.
Are they suitable for outdoor work?
Yes. They can be used for gardening, construction work, winter services, or other outdoor activities, for example.
Which shoes are Thermrup® heated insoles suitable for?
Depending on the model, they can be used in winter boots, hiking boots, work shoes, outdoor shoes, ski boots, motorcycle boots, and riding boots, for example. It is crucial that there is sufficient space in the shoe.
How much space does a heated insole require?
Thermrup® insoles are approx. 5 mm thick. The shoe should offer enough interior space so that the foot is not unnecessarily constricted.
What should I consider when buying a heated insole?
Important factors include the appropriate size, the thickness of the insole, space in the shoe, battery voltage and capacity, desired runtime, heat settings, operating temperature, battery attachment, the ability to trim to size, and the intended purpose.
